The South African Power Crisis and your Kruger Park Safari
The South African power crisis will not affect your experience in Kruger National Park. This blog tells you why.
The South African Power Crisis has no effect on a Kruger Park Safari. While the country gets hit by rolling black-outs / “load shedding” to cut back power usage, Kruger National Park has generators (driven by sun power) while you are on safari with us.
South Africa’s power utility Eskom continues to battle capacity constraints caused by flooding, unplanned outages, historical maintenance not being in place and demand.
The upside is, despite the many power outages, many businesses in South Africa are geared for unplanned power outages (with generators, battery banks and gas).
Our dining area has battery lights and we use gas to make food on. The shop and parks’ restaurant also has a generator for guests to use the Wifi. That even makes the mood romantic.
Guests can make use of the pool in the rest camp to cool off during the heat of the day. Our tents have air-conditioning, and when power outages occur, it takes only a short while for the park to turn on the back-up power.
