What to pack on your Kruger National Park Safari

Not sure what to pack on your Kruger National Park Safari?

Get it right to prevent paying for overweight luggage!

Clothes

Make sure you pack the right clothes on your Kruger National Park Safari, light cotton in light tones which is always best in our South African hot climate.

Some long sleeved shirts and trousers for bush walks and to keep you warm during the more chilly Winter nights.

Remember when dressing for your safari it is important to ensure you have several layers of clothing, to take off as temperatures can vary a lot.

A wide brimmed hat to protect you from sunburn as the afternoon sun is very strong and may hurt your eyes and the back of your neck. Sunglasses is very important as well to prevent strong glare, especially if you are not used to the African Sun which might also cause a headache.

Ensure you pack very comfortable (heavy duty) hiking shoes as well as nice open sandles to wear during leisure and around the pool.

Pack light but smart to make your safari the best experience ever.

Medical Kit

Your health and well-being is the most important factor whilst on a Kruger National Park Safari, so ensure you have a small medical kit handy with only needed items for weight restrictions.

Important items to include:

Insect repellent, lip balm, headache / pain medication and Vitamins.  Your kit can also consist of the standard items, such as band aids,  something for burns and other necessary prevention tablets.

Ensure you have enough chronic medication packed for the duration of your trip and consult your doctor for Anti-Malarial medication a few weeks prior to your safari as most medication for Malaria needs to be taken prior to your trip already, for prevention.

Pack enough sunscreen for the duration of your trip and preferably SPF 30 to 50.

Drink enough water!  There will also be water provided on your transfer vehicle as well as Game Drive vehicle to prevent dehydration.  Always best to have extra water handy.

Necessities

When going on safari there are some other necessary items to pack, that is definitely needed to enhance your safari experience.

Light-weight flashlight for those after sunset strolls.

Ensure you have the correct plug converter to charge your devices, such as phones and cameras.  In South Africa we use the 3-point plug which you will see in the photos.

Cameras are optional as you can also make use of your phone to capture your best safari moments and memories, however for the “photographers” you can pack your camera equipment as you will be stunned with the amazing sightings you will come across. Photos of African wildlife and nature is always so picture perfect.  You also do not have to worry about space to capture these moments as your game drives will be in an open vehicle which is higher than the normal car, giving you enough opportunity for great sightings, even with other guests joining the game drive.

If you own a pair of binoculars, it is very nice to have these handy for those far-off sightings.

Last but not least, a good book to read during leisure time to make your stay more memorable, (especially in rest camps of the Kruger National Park).  Luxury Lodges will have reading material.  Also remember that the park shops inside Kruger sell very good wildlife reads and also should you run out of any supplies, you might find it there as well.
